How to test for demodex mites
Testing for demodex mites is very easy, there is absolutely no need to take a biopsy, you will need some tools though.
What you will need:
1: A microscope with some kind of lighting system, the light needs to shine through the glass slide from beneath, otherwise you will not see them, a magnification of 40 to 60 times is enough find them.
2: A tool to scrape the sebum from the face and mix the obtained sample with the oil on the glass slide, U can use the tool we sell but anything will do as long it is not sharp so it doesn't damages the skin.
3: A bit household vegetable oil such as bean oil, grape seed oil, sesame oil, etc. to dissolve the sebum, do not use liquid paraffin, glycerine, shampoo oil etc.
4: A disinfectant to disinfect the scrape tool.
A demodex scraping tool is really nothing special, just a piece of stainless steel more or less pointed and the edges from the first inch or so sharpened but not like a knife, should not be so sharp that it is able to cut, see picture down here.
How to do:
Put a drop of oil on a glass slide, if you like to find out from exactly which part of the skin the mites are coming from you can put more drops of oil on the slide, otherwise put all the samples you obtain in the same drop of oil.
Let's start with the forehead.
Stretch the skin up with your left hand and scrape the skin with the tool downwards, push reasonably hard so the mites are pushed out of the skin, bring the obtained sample to an oil drop on the slide, tap and stir a bit with the point of the tool so the sample will come into the oil.

The chin.
Let the person put his lower lip inside so the chin skin becomes streched, again, scrape the chin skin with the tool downwards, push reasonably hard so the mites are pushed out of the skin, bring the obtained sample to an oil drop on the slide, tap and stir a bit with the point of the tool so the sample will come into the oil.

And finaly the nose
The nose is a bit different, just try to push the top and the sides of the nose quit hard, then collect the sebum or oily substance you pushed out with the tool or something else pointy and mix it with the oil on the glas slide again, tap and stir a bit with the point of the tool so the sample will come into the oil.

Examine the sample(s)
In the next video we will explain how to recognize/find demodex mites using a microscope
